Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha
Meals: Dinner
On arrival at the airport you will be personally met and escorted by one of the Wild Root`s guides to your accommodation at the Arusha Coffee Lodge. Surrounded by endless acres of berry-laden coffee bushes in Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation, the Arusha Coffee Lodge is designed around the original plantation houses with luxuriant decor and stylish undertones of the bygone era. You can choose to relax at the hotel or the more adventure minded may decide to explore the bustling town of Arusha. Take the opportunity to shop for souvenirs. You can find many examples of handicrafts at the local craft markets, such as colorful scarves, mekonde carvings, batik, jewelry and artworks. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at Arusha Coffee Lodge

 

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast you will enjoy a panoramic morning drive to Lake Manyara National Park. This park is a must to visit and boasts a diverse and varied terrain in a relatively small area. The park stretches along the base of the 600 meter high Rift Valley escarpment. Lake Manyara covers two thirds of the park. Incredibly, the other third of the park homes a variety of animals, which are supported by open savannah grassland with rocky outcrops, marshes and acacia woodland. The park is famous for tree-climbing lions and a huge variety of birds including flamingo. Other animal found here are buffalo, zebra, hippo, leopard, elephants and giraffes. You will enjoy jaw dropping panoramic views as you enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the spectacular Gibbs Farm

 

Day 3: Ngorongoro Highlands
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today you can choose from a list of various activities. You may wish to visit the local orphanage. Here, the children will delight you as they show off their English speaking skills. It is hard not to be mesmerized and touched by their infectious smiles and their enthusiasm for visitors. Another option is to take a coffee plantation tour. You can observe the process behind growing and harvesting coffee beans. At the conclusion of the tour you will get a chance to enjoy the local brew. Bird watching may also be arranged for the bird enthusiast. The Lake Manyara area is an ideal location to spot many endemic species of birdlife. Of a night time, we recommend the optional activity of a night game drive. You will depart for your game drive after enjoying dinner at the Gibbs Farm. Marvel as you observe Africa by night when the nocturnal wildlife reigns supreme

 

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning we will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater. With an estimated 25,000 mammals, you are sure to be overwhelmed at the abundance of wildlife that exist within the crater at any one time. You are likely to see large herds of wildebeest, buffalo, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle. There are also large numbers of lion and spotted hyena resident in the crater so have your camera ready. The dense forest on the slopes and rim of the crater provides shelter for elephants. After a full days game drive (6 hours) we will ascend the crater and head back to your accommodation at Gibbs Farm. Here you will have the option to enjoy wandering the grounds of the farm in an organized short walk tour. They have many to choose from including a farm walk, garden walk, indigenous medicinal walk, Ngorongoro forest walk and a village walk.

 

Day 5: Serengeti National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today, we will make our way to the world famous Serengeti National Park and your luxury accommodation for the next 3 nights at Sayari Camp. En-route we will visit a Maasai Boma where you will get the chance to see the Maasai performing their traditional dances. You may even get a chance to join in! The Serengeti is characterized by spectacularly abundant concentrations of wildlife, stunningly beautiful landscapes and vast pristine areas making the Serengeti one of the most exciting parks to visit in Africa. Arrive at Sayari Camp in time for sundowners

 

Day 6: Serengeti National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Spend a full day exploring the vast Serengeti plains. You will rise early to enjoy an early morning game drive. At sunrise you may encounter animals grazing in the beautiful light of sunrise and predators may still be busy hunting before retiring to rest for the day. Sunrise on the Serengeti is not to be missed and extraordinary photographic opportunities will abound at this magical time of day. You have the option to return to your accommodation for a hot lunch or to opt for a packed lunch which can be enjoyed at one of the various picnic sites found in the Serengeti. After lunch you will continue on a game drive. Around the time of dusk be on the lookout for lion. Cheetah can also be spotted on the plains in the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are not too high. They rely on daylight and speed to catch their prey. Hippo pods can be seen in the bigger pools and rivers while crocodiles can be seen sunning themselves on the riverbanks. You will return to Sayari Camp in time to enjoy a sundowner before your evening meal

 

Day 7: Serengeti National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
You will rise early to enjoy a balloon ride over the Serengeti plains at sunrise (please note that this activity is an optional activity and is an additional cost to your safari). The balloon will touch down and you will be served a traditional champagne breakfast. Sunrise in the Serengeti is not to be missed and extraordinary photographic opportunities will abound at this magical time of day. You will return to the lodge to enjoy a hot lunch. After lunch you will continue on a game drive, or you can choose to relax at Sayari Camp. Around the time of dusk be on the lookout for lion. Cheetah can also be spotted on the plains in the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are lower.

 

Day 8: Serengeti to Arusha
Meals: Breakfast
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before we head back to Arusha where you will say goodbye to your Wild Root`s guide and transfer to your next destination in Africa. You may want to include one of our optional activities to your itinerary as your next destination. Maybe a gorilla trek or you may just like to spend a couple of days relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar
